Raksha Bandhan

Raksha Bandhan is coming up on 26th of August this year. It falls on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Shravana. It is a Hindu ritual that in its core strengthens the bond between brother and sister with love and trust. The ritual like all other Indian rituals is colourful and exciting complete with families getting together, exchanging gifts and not to forget the wonderful sweets and food prepared for the celebration.

The main ritual is the tying of the Rakhi by sisters on the wrists of the brothers. The ritual begins with a traditional pooja thali preperation, complete with diya, rice, kumkum, sweets and the rakhi thread. The sisters then offer prayers to the Gods seeking blessings for their brothers. They then apply the kumkum and rice on the forehead of their brothers. This is followed by tying the rakhi, the holy thread that carries with it all their love, affection care and trust for the well being, happiness and safety of their brothers. The brothers in return promise to protect, love and take care of his sister at all times. The brothers also give their sisters gifts and sweets in gratitude for the love, prayers and good wishes from their sisters.

Though this tradition is primarily followed in the north and western regions of India, over the years it has become a custom across India and around the globe. The spirit of Rakhi magically brings all brothers and sisters together. In today’s world when life and life style has led people farther away physically and sometime emotionally, such festivals come as a gentle reminder of the importance of family, love and relationships.

Sometimes, circumstances do not give a chance for brothers and sisters to meet on this special day! We at Dial a Bouquet would love to help you send a Rakhi to your brother. It may not be as good as tying the Rakhi yourself, but the joy of receiving the Rakhi from a sister can never be any less. The brothers need not worry either! We have you covered too! Send Rakhi gifts to your sister that is going to keep your her smiling all day long.
